CNN-Biden aims for comprehensive climate approach as he halts new oil and gas leases on federal land

(CNN)President Joe Biden signed several executive actions related to the climate crisis on Wednesday, including one directing the secretary of the interior to pause on entering into new oil and natural gas leases on public lands or offshore waters.

Biden and other administration officials have emphasized that the White House is taking a “whole of government” approach to climate change. They’ve also underscored that they believe the President’s actions will help spur job growth, and categorized people working in industries vulnerable to job loss, such as coal miners, under their umbrella of environmental justice.

“Today is climate day at the White House and, which means that today is jobs day at the White House. We’re talking about American innovation, American products, American labor,” Biden said at the outset of his remarks at a signing ceremony. “We’re talking about the health of our families and cleaner water cleaner air and cleaner communities. We’re talking about national security.”

He continued: “It’s a future of enormous hope and opportunity. It’s about coming to the moment to deal with this maximum threat that we exist with as now facing us, climate change, with a greater sense of urgency. In my view, we’ve already waited too long to deal with this climate crisis. We can’t wait any longer.”

Commentaire: J’ai bien hate d’en savoir plus sur cet aspect de leur politique environnementale qui semble bien centre (ex.: Securite nationale, Sauver la Planete) et qui rejoint ce que l’on peut connaitre des resultats des efforts de la Chine a ce propos.

C’est exactement le bon moment pour ouvrir le debat… C’est bien au-dela de l’Accord de Paris… cela rejoint le souhait des gens, partout, dans les villes, les villages, les campagnes… l’urgence que ressent la jeunesse devant la faillite des adultes… il etait temps d’agir et d’agir fort. Mais ce qui importe c’est la direction que M. Biden a donne, elle est ce qui convient a ce moment-ci. D’autant plus important, c’est que la jeunesse n’aura pas a se mobiliser, a se faire convaincre de l’importance fondamentale de cette nouvelle ligne directrice… elle l’est deja depuis de nombreuses annees,… elle a attendue… elle est prete a se mettre au travail.

But what matters is the direction Mr. Biden has given, it is the right thing at this time. All the more important, it is that the youth will not have to mobilize, to be convinced of the fundamental importance of this new guideline … it has already been so for many years, … she’s been waiting … she’s ready to get to work.
